During a zippy 2-d intro to this, pudgy perky Panda Po actually isn't in hyperbolic mode when he reports that his enemies were “blinded by awesomeness” at the sight of him. But Po could be talking about us, too, because Kung Fu Panda is so delightfully, um, awesome that your eyes will have trouble believing it.
What hits you between the eyes is that Kung Fu Panda offers some of the best action scenes of 2008. Directors Mark Osborne and John Stevenson rediscover how gut-bustingly funny and rip-roaringly entertaining cartoon violence can be.
This film is blessed with a mouth-watering slate of vocal talent. The fact that it doesn't rely on the recognised personalities of its disembodied voices - including Black, Hoffman, McShane, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu and Jackie Chan - should indicate how strong this Panda truly is.
Jack Black is a measured hipster doofus as Po. Living in a stunningly designed ye olde China that no one would protest, bumbling Po is the son of a duck, Mr Ping who runs a noodle shop. Unable to find the broth in his blood which his dad says is his destiny, Po abandons his post to pursue his true passion - martial arts. Eventually landing at the mountain-top ceremony held to pick the Dragon Warrior, Po is picked as The Chosen One, much to the chagrin of master Shifu (on-song Hoffman).
Training to take on bad kitty Tai Lung (McShane, grrrrowl) resilient Po gets belted in front of his heroes, the Furious Five (featuring Jolie's Tigress, Chan's Monkey and Rogen's Mantis). Being that this is a journey of self-belief, you already know that Po has to have confidence in him. And, as per every facet of the Panda gem, the sage advice and inspiration glow brilliantly.
An awesome adventure from go to Po, this martial arts malarkey is a joyous hit out. It’s the huge action which rocks hardest.

Emma: I thought it was actually quite a fantastic movie. I liked that it left some of the "adult humour" out of it as many kids movies have these days. It's just a more old fashioned typical kiddie movie with none of the grown up business to confuse the kids. Fantastic i loved it (07 August 2008)

David & Pete: A full cinema at Southland, 2 adults in row B. V Max is a very big screen, and that panda takes up a lot of it! It was the first time in many years, 100 kids under 10 years old ran to the front and danced to Kung Fu Fighting! Pretty AWESOME (24 June 2008)
