Editorial Review
Make your way downstairs, past the - yes - Knight statue, and you'll find yourself in a venue that resembles a College frat bar. It's all pool tables, wooden booths, Budweiser posters on the walls and old scotch barrels serving as tables. Apparently Thursday nights are reserved for undergrads from the local videogame college. That isn't an official rule, but it's one the crowd were eager to talk up. Fridays and Saturdays, presumably, get a more generic mix of university students.
Given the target demographic, the drink selection isn't particularly sophisticated. Indeed, the spirits all come premixed in bottles. At least they're reasonably priced - $5.50 for a Johnnie Walker and dry. If that's not your drink then you can choose from a selection of bottled beers and UDLs. Music consists of whatever is on the bar staff's iPod - a selection of classics from The Smiths, The Doors and, err, Aqua. Still, if you ask nicely they'll change the track for you.
That laidback approach to music selection is in keeping with the general vibe of the place. Good Knight Bar is probably the most relaxed and unpretentious bar you're likely to find in the city centre. The kind of place where the staff sit up on the actual bar and the locals engage strangers in conversation. If you're looking for somewhere to meet friends for casual drinks then this hidden gem comes highly recommended.
Oh, and if you get hungry, there's always the Pancake Parlour upstairs.
